Zen – 15 weeks old

The last wedding of the season has been shot so what will I do with my personal time you ask? Well I can start by breathing again and absorbing my time with my little family and starting a new hobby.

The new hobby I’m talking about is quilting. I never thought I would ever touch a needle or a sewing machine again since I really hated “home-ec” class back in my public school days. The one project was to make a stuffed animal. You were supplied the fabric and specific instructions to make it. I struggled just threading the machine, how did the teacher expect me to make this animal??? (it was a baby lamb btw). The project was a disaster. When my lamb was finished it looked like it had gotten in a fight, and the hand-stiched area to close it up looked like a drunk plastic surgeon got their hands on it. Poor lamb. Every time I looked at it I would feel so sorry for it. 20+ years went by without me touching a needle/machine again, just the sound of a machine would make me shudder. Then a few years ago I was on the internet and came across some bold graphic prints on fabric. I saw how it was used in a quilt and I fell in love with it. I wanted to make something like it for myself and it would be another way for me to be creative. This year, my mother-in-law Cathy has gotten me over my fear by purchasing a quilt kit for Zen and she said that I would be the one to put it together. I was scared that I would screw it up but Cathy assured me I wouldn’t. She brought me to her sister Sandra’s (pro quilter) for some personal quilting lessons and I am not scared anymore. Instead, I have a pile of patterns and fabrics in mind to complete…but baby steps first. Thank you Cathy and Sandra…you two are so much fun to quilt with and I wouldn’t have finished my first quilt without you two!

Today I have finally started what I have wanted to do for Zen since he was born.

THE PLAN:

  1. I am going to take a picture of him weekly for a year to watch his growth and in each shot he would be on a different patterned fabric. I will also keep the same stuffed “UGLYDOG” to gauge Zen’s size. I know I missed out on his first three months and I’m kicking myself for not thinking of doing this earlier – but it’s better late than never right???
  2. After a year of pictures have been taken, I will get them printed into a keepsake book for him to look back on.
  3. Also with all the background fabric used in the photos, I will make a quilt for him. It may be mismatched but it will definitely be one-of-a-kind.

I’ll keep you all posted with the odd quilt project I’m working on but for now enjoy my baby Zen on the first quilt made by his very own momma.  :)

Hi everyone!…

Uhhh…who are you and what are you doing at MY photoshoot???

GET OUT!!!…

Hee heeeee!!! He’s gone!…It’s all about me again! :)

* * * this is the one I have chosen to be in his keepsake book * * *

UPDATE: I’ve realized that there isn’t a huge difference in Zen’s looks if I take the picture weekly so I’ve decided to take pictures of him monthly. Stay tuned for his December pic!

Ariana + Neil • Toronto, Ontario

Ariana and Neil wedding had a lot of people from around the world come to their wedding; England, California and Chile just to name a few. Wow, think about it, people from certain parts of the world coming to see you on your big day? Doesn’t it give you such a warm special feeling inside?

You could tell that these two are so special to one another because every time they saw each other they would each have such a big smile on their face. I felt like I was spying on them each time I caught it on my camera.  ;P

Thank you guys for being so amazing. You and your families really made us feel comfortable and welcome. All the best to you both! xoxo

Pretty details on the front of Ariana’s dress…

…and more on the back…lovely.

Susan + Kevin • Wedding • Toronto, Ontario

Maggie Sottero? Heard of her? I’m sure all you brides-to-be have. I remember ooo-ing and awwwe-ing over her dresses when I was on the hunt for my wedding dress. Susan was lucky enough to have one to wear for her big day. I loved the lace and the intricate simple details in her gown – it fit her like a glove, like it was made just for her.

Susan and Kevin’s wedding took place at the beautiful Markland Wood Golf Club. The wedding ceremony was outdoors which gave it a light and fresh feel to it. All the little details that Susan put together also added to the ambience; from the seat reservation signs to the rose petals down the aisle, it was perfect. Great job Susan!

Thank you Susan and Kevin for giving me a warm welcome to being a part of your day…you two make a beautiful couple. xoxo.
